Poor air quality is the biggest environmental risk to public health in the UK

In 2040 there will be a plan to ban the sale of all new diesel and petrol cars, this is done in the hope it will encourage people to purchase electric cars. Whilst many people believe this is the best way to reduce emissions and embrace the new technology, some are concerned about the increased pressure on the national gird. The national grid report suggests the peak demand after the evening rush hour could increase by 50%. Due to this concern many have advised that more wind farms be installed to cope with this demand.

Only a small 4% of new car sales are for electric cars, there is also a large concern if there will be enough charging points for the new electric cars when the sales increase due to this legislation.

A new analysis found that 48 of the most polluted roads are in London. Others have been identified in Birmingham, Derby, Leeds, Nottingham, Southampton, Bristol, Bolton, Manchester, Bury, Coventry, Newcastle, Sheffield, Belfast, Cardiff and Middlesborough.

Car Company Volvo has announced that all its new models will have electric motors from 2019, whilst BMW also publicised that they will be building a fully electric Mini in Britain.
