WIND ENERGY IN TAIWAN

FORMOSA BUILDING WIND FARM
Formosa 1 is an offshore windfarm being developed near Miaoli, in the west coast of Taiwan. The wind farm will be Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore wind project. Two wind turbines were installed in November 2016 as part of a demonstration phase, and commenced operations in April 2017. The second phase
involves the addition of another 30 turbines
with a combined capacity of 120MW.
Construction on phase two is expected
to be completed by late 2019.
The Taiwanese Ministry of Economic
Affairs Bureau of Energy plan to build
1,000 wind turbines by 2030 in order to
support the Taiwanese Government’s
plans to produce 4GW of electricity
through offshore wind.
Ørsted has obtained site exclusivity for four offshore wind sites located between 35 and 60km from the shore of Changhua County. The build-out will be in 2021 and 2025.The total capacity is expected to be 2.4GW, which could power 2.8 million households in Taiwan, the company said.
Vietnam has the highest installed wind power capacity
in comparison to Oman, Somalia, Russia, Iceland and
Kazakhstan. Vietnam is estimated at 140-180 MW.
It has 3200 kilometres of coastline, great for wind energy.
Vietnam’s average wind speed on average can reach up to
100m, with a power density of 615 W/m2.
The current installed wind power capacity still forms less than 0.4% of Vietnam’s electricity generation. Vietnam having a strong economic growth has led to an increase renewable energy projects for the country. Holding an estimated technical wind energy potential of 24-28 GW it’s no wonder people will want to exploit the country’s potential.
WIND POWER IN VIETNAM
With the current scares of global warming, it’s become evidently important that out governments must do all they can to decrease the rate at which we are damaging our planet. Clean alternatives such as wind energy, should not be overlooked. Additionally, we are capable to power large countries if we utilised our resources. Clean energy should be one of our main focuses.
