Juilliard Jazz Orchestra: The Music of Duke Ellington New York City Ballet Spring Gala

The Juilliard Jazz Orchestra, conducted by James Burton III, features some of the world’s
top emerging jazz artists. As part of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington week,
these performances at Dizzy’s feature the timeless music of Duke Ellington, brought to life

dance at this one-time-only gala performance. Featuring music by Samuel Barber, Leonard
Bernstein, George Gershwin, Philip Glass and John Philip Sousa, as well as two premieres

Head to Lincoln Center to hear Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major and
Luigi Dallapiccola’s Il Prigoniero (The Prisoner). Alan Gilbert became the first native
New Yorker to become music director of the New York Philharmonic in 2009, while
highly successful violinist Lisa Batiashvili is known for her talent as both a soloist
appearing with the world’s leading orchestras and as a chamber player. Pre-concert

Mostly Mozart Festival

Music Director Louis Langrée leads numerous concerts during this annual festival.
This year, enjoy a thematic exploration of the musical lineage between Mozart and
Beethoven. The Budapest Festival Orchestra returns with a staged concert of Mozart’s
Le nozze di Figaro, the festival’s first staging of the entire work. Other highlights
include 10 concerts featuring 10 premieres by 10 emerging and established New York

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater

This June, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to Lincoln Center for the
first time in 13 years for a seven-performance engagement led by Artistic Director
Robert Battle. Celebrated choreographer Ronald K. Brown will premiere his newest
work “Four Corners,” created especially for this engagement, and the finale of all
performances (except for Saturday evening) will be Alvin Ailey’s inspiring American

“Lucky Guy”

Multi Academy Award-winner Tom Hanks makes his Broad-
way debut starring as New York Post writer Mike McAlary in
the premiere of Nora Ephron’s play “Lucky Guy,” directed by
George C. Wolfe. The new play takes place in New York during
the 1980s and dramatizes the story of McAlary, ending with
his coverage of the Abner Louima case for which
he won the Pulitzer Prize just before his untimely death.
