Alexa Callaway
Biology-Chemistry // Grand Rapids, Mich.
“Science is a big deal
wit h my family, ”
... says Alexa Callaway, whose father teaches Life
Sciences and whose mother is a medical director at a
Grand Rapids, Mich., hospital. As Manchester alumni,
they both know that science is a big deal here, too.
A biology-chemistry major on a pre-dentistry track,
Alexa knew that Manchester would prepare her well
for her next step. “It’s rigorous, it’s hard, but I’m going
to transition into dental school way easier than if I
went somewhere else.”
Why dentistry? “When I was in 7th grade I got braces,
and I thought it was so cool that someone was using
my mouth and basically doing a puzzle,” she says. “I’ve
always been interested in business and science, so I
was trying to find something that would combine the
two of them.”

While participating in a January session trip to
Nicaragua for MU’s Medical Practicum, she also found
she has an interest in public health. “I’d like to help
with the free clinic wherever I find myself and help
people with their dental health.”
