Miranda
Malott
Miranda Malott loves animals. An official head
count of her Hoagland, Ind., home will tell you
that.
Present and accounted for are two Yorkshire
terriers. Also a chocolate Lab. Also three
salamanders.
Little wonder, then, that Miranda, a Manchester
University biology major, says she’s wanted to
be a veterinarian since she was “very young.”
And that one of her companions these days is
Juniper, a 4-month-old service dog in training
that Miranda is socializing for the 4 Paws for
Ability program. And that she was the president
and coordinator of the 4 Paws for Ability club
on campus.
Everyone is encouraged to pursue his or
her passion at Manchester, and this future

veterinarian pursues hers with a singular focus.
Since the day she stepped foot on campus, she
has found the sort of nurturing environment and
opportunity that allows her pursuit to flourish.
During a January session medical practicum trip
to Nicaragua, she got to vaccinate free-ranging
cows and pigs, ride horses and connect with a
puppy the Manchester group dubbed “Kevin.”
On campus, the biology curriculum has been
excellent preparation for veterinary medicine,
and the tight-knit MU community ensures there
is always plenty of help and support when she
needs it.
“Everyone knows everyone, and everyone’s
willing to help everyone,” she says. “There are
so many resources available to you.”
Not to mention a four-legged pal or two.
