MU | N e w s Gallery Exhibits Davis, who will celebrate 50 years of marriage to Phyllis Wenger ’66 Davis later this year, taught history for 34 years in the South Bend Community Schools, then served as pastor of Church of the Brethren congregations in Warsaw and Nappanee for another 13 years. His artist’s reception and talk from 3 - 4:30 p.m., May 25 will coincide with Alumni Days. His show will be on exhibit from May 13 to Sept. 2 in the Link Gallery on the North Manchester campus, then move to Gallery 101 on the Fort Wayne campus from Sept. 16 to Dec. 12. The photography of Jim Davis ’67 will be featured as part of Manchester’s Alumni Series beginning in May. Davis, a retired educator and pastor, traces his passion for photography back many years. But it wasn’t until he discovered that once-rare bird species such as bald eagles were making a comeback in Indiana that he also discovered a passion for photographing birds of prey. “A person cannot be successful at bird photography without becoming something of an environmentalist,” says Davis. “I record what I see in the wild with the hope that my grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be able to see and experience what I have seen and experienced.” Now Davis pursues photos of bald eagles, as well as great blue herons, sandhill cranes, egrets (pictured here), pelicans, unusual ducks and more. The works of Judy Wenig-Horswell will remain on exhibit in Gallery G on the upper level of the Jo Young Switzer Center until Sept. 18. She is a retired Goshen College art professor whose media include paintings, jewelry, metal work and clay sculptures. The works of fiber artist Cynthia Lockhart can be seen now in Gallery 101 on the Fort Wayne campus. Lockhart teaches in the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. Quilt “Nursery of Pizotes” 10 |
