Brenda Sands ’70 of Claypool, Ind., co-founded Stars International in Indianapolis in 2002 and recently opened a new consulting firm in South Bend, Ind. The company, which also has an office in Madeira Beach, Fla., is a safety consulting firm for the oil, gas and construction industries and employs 12 people who design, develop and facilitate safety workshops. Denny Bechtelheimer ’72 of Phoenix, Ariz., retired from Pearson Education in September 2012 after serving as a computer education consultant for 20 years. Berman Award for Excellence in Teaching General Semantics. This award is given annually to an individual for outstanding use of general semantics formulations in educational settings and is the nation’s highest teaching honor given by the Institute of General Semantics. Randal J. Rhoade ’86 of Goshen, Ind., has joined The Samaritan Health and Living Center in Elkhart, Ind., as its part-time chief executive officer. R. Gregor Badry ’87 of Peru, Ind., retired in December from fulltime athletic training at Peru High School after 27 years of service for Peru Community Schools. He continues as assistant physical education teacher at Elmwood Primary Learning Center in Peru. 1990s Kevin Rice ’90 of Angola, Ind., was hired as the assistant vice president and manager for the Farmers & Merchants State Bank in Angola, Ind. Darrell Clase ’91 of West Lafayette, Ind., was promoted to director of Tippecanoe County Emergency Medical Services. Darrell has been with Franciscan Alliance and Tippecanoe County EMS for 17 years.
