1960s Phil Compton ’64 was one of 12 recipients of the
Jefferson Award from the Lima, Ohio, area for voluntary service to the
community. He retired in 2002 as a professor of psychology at Ohio
Northern University. He is now pastor of Rinehart United Methodist
Church. Phil was also one of the organizers of Table One, a pay-as-
you-are-able restaurant in Kenton, Ohio.
John Bunch ’68 of Muncie, Ind., and his wife, Zemora Bunch,
celebrated 62 years of marriage on April 21, 2019.
Sharon Schaadt ’69 Cowen of Galveston, Ind., published a book,
Shadows of the Summer Solstice: A Legend about a Farmer and the Green Ribbon
Murder, based on a true story passed down from her grandfather.
1970s Jack Gochenaur ’70 of Columbia City, Ind., was named
the United Way of Whitley County’s Volunteer of the Year. Jack retired
as treasurer and vice president for finance of Manchester University.

1940s Angela Sollenberger ’40 Stinebaugh and Vernon
Stinebaugh ’41 of Lancaster, Pa., both celebrated their 100th
birthdays this year. Professor emeritus of music, Vernon taught
music education, violin and conducted the symphony in his 31
years at Manchester. He went on to teach an additional 10 years
at Grace College and served as pastor of South Whitley Church
of the Brethren. Angela taught elementary school music in North
Manchester for 35 years and often accompanied her husband on
piano. The Stinebaughs met as students at Manchester and married
in 1942.
1950s Paula Sheller ’55 Adams of Forest Grove, Ore.,
published a children’s book titled A Bear in My Sky.

Wendell Dilling ’58 of Midland, Mich., won seven medals in the
first Michigan Senior Olympics held in the winter. Dilling won silver
medals in the shot put, 600-meter, 1,000-meter and mile runs in the
