President Dave McFadden ’82 who serves
on a leadership board of NIERP as did his
predecessor Jo Young ’69 Switzer, says
Manchester makes a distinctive contribution
to northeast Indiana. Students learn from
differences at MU and many study abroad. As
graduates, they are comfortable with diversity
and inclusion and carry that outlook into their
careers. We not only want talented people to
stay in northeast Indiana, says McFadden,
we want people new to the region to feel
welcome when they get here.
After all, northeast Indiana already does
business with people all over the world.
Says Zimmer Biomet’s Jack Heeter, “There
are large global organizations right in
Manchester’s back yard.”

helped promote the Orthopedic Capital of the World as a great
place to live and work; pharmacy students like Kelvin Reynolds ’19
help expand the capacity of Fort Wayne area businesses and health
care providers; employees of Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) participate
in MU’s Dynamic Development, a leadership development program;
Tate Wooding ’17 answers the phone for the North Manchester
Chamber of Commerce where he completed an internship this
summer (he’s pictured on Page 2 with Laura Rager, executive
director); Professor Mary Lahman ’83 teaches one of the Dynamic
Development courses for SDI.
