MU| N o t e s In Memoriam Rowan Keim Daggett, professor emerita Rowan Keim Daggett, 84, professor emerita of English, died Oct. 24, 2015. Dr. Daggett taught at Manchester from 1968 to 1998 and served as associate academic dean from 1979 to 1981. A linguistics scholar, she traveled and studied extensively in Ireland and the United Kingdom, leading several January courses to that region. As a lasting tribute to her influence on their lives, friends, 1950s Roy Swihart ’59 of Inverness, Fla., has retired after a long career in education. In 1969 he became an assistant professor of education at DePauw University; in 1983 he became an associate professor. He served as acting chair of the Education Department in 1980-81. In 1990 Roy retired and left the university, moving to Florida and serving as a guidance counselor at Citrus High School for more than 16 years. Travel is now on the agenda for the Swiharts. 1960’s Gordon Wilson ’60 and his wife, Frieda, of Bear Lake, Mich., recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Tom ’66 and Eloise Harold ’65 Brown of North Manchester, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 13, 2015. Tom is colleagues and former students established The Rowan Keim Daggett Scholarship Fund, citing her “humble dignity, gentle and supportive spirit, and perceptive discernment.” She earned her bachelor’s degree from McPherson College in 1952, her master’s from Ball State University in 1964, and her Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1978. now retired from Manchester Community Schools where he taught for 44 years. Eloise is retired from Manchester University after 23 years of service at Funderburg Library. The couple has three children and six grandchildren. Fred Inniger ’66 of Kendallville, Ind., recently was named Kendallville Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. Fred has been a beloved teacher and counselor for 40 years. He has coached nine sports over 34 years, accumulating 557 wins, including sectional and regional titles. Fred has called East Noble basketball, football and baseball games on radio station WAWK 95.5 and interviewed sports figures on his “Sports Talk” show. He is a member of the Indiana High School Softball Hall of Fame and the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame. Manchester | 33
