Honoring Generations Past and Future
“ One of the driving forces for both of us was to be true to the mountain aesthetic,” said the wife.“ The exposed barn beams throughout are magnificent. Everything we contemplated needed to honor the craftsmen of 200 years ago by letting their workmanship show.”
Before she reached out to Kitchens of Vermont, the Manchester-based interior renovation specialists, she devoured architectural magazines and websites for inspiration.“ I looked at what seemed like thousands and thousands of kitchens,” she said, in her effort to identify the materials, style, and layout of her dreams. The couple took their ideas to the Kitchens of Vermont showroom and sat down with Adam and Jen Cyr, the husband-and-wife founders and lead designers.

Adam, a Vermont native, brought nearly 20 years of experience with interior and kitchen remodeling when he founded Kitchens of Vermont in 2018. Jen, a graphic designer by trade, adapted to interior design and now uses her eye for color and balance to make clients’ homes into works of art. The duo likes to think their marital experience informs their collaboration with clients. After all, spousal disagreements are a famous pitfall in any home renovation.
A successful project reflects the combined sensibilities of the people living in the space, Adam suggested. He and his wife— and business partner— find their individual skills and perspectives complement each other. Similarly, there is usually a way for married clients to find common ground when selecting the materials and styles for their dream kitchen.
The first step for this project was to pare down a long list of potential options. The husband remembered being concerned there were so many different surfaces, colors, and textures it“ could end up a mishmash.”
