The theme of this year’s Manchester Life is Building Community. In this issue, we highlight all of the remarkable
efforts of the people and organizations who are dedicating their time and resources to making Manchester and
its surrounding towns vibrant, fresh, and fun—now and for our future.
After I read the first drafts of the magazine’s articles, I told our staff writer, Benjamin Lerner, that he had done a
wonderful job at capturing the spirit of the featured organizations. I did, however, inform him that I thought the
articles were—at times—redundant in their use of words like “collaboration.”
His response was succinct and, as usual, impactful.
Benjamin said, “There is no way to NOT be redundant when the critical words at the heart of all of these
organizations are “collaboration” and “community.”
It occurred to me, at that moment, how lucky we are to live in a COMMUNITY in which its people and
organizations are genuinely committed to COLLABORATION in their thoughts and actions.
My wife always says, “A rising tide lifts all boats.” Manchester doesn’t have a harbor, but the tide sure is high.
Whether it is shopping or dining; theatre, art, or music; outdoor recreation, the skatepark, farmers’ markets, or the
pinball arcade . . . as these pages will show, there really is “something for everyone”: both tourists and locals alike.
Enjoy your time in Manchester—and enjoy Manchester Life!
