These regulations however require complimentary regulatory guidance from the
appropriate sectorial regulatory agency, and in the present case the DPR.
NNRA with the assistance of the IAEA has installed portal monitors at the
export terminal of materials leaving the country as well as some inland borders
in the Country. This is managed by the customs authority. Recycling plants are
by law to show evidence of monitoring of their inputs and NNRA organises
regular inspection of such facilities.
NNRA are to licence and have a regulatory oversight on waste management
policy created under NAEC.
The waste management prescribes “return to manufacturer” principle. Before
import licence is granted, prospective buyers are required to obtain a written
from manufacturers to accept a source after use. Acceptance of waste for
storage is on the ground that has been packaged and meets transport condition.
Handling of waste must be in designated facilities only. All storage facilities are
under surveillance and are regularly monitored. The characterisation prescribed
in the regulations and the segregation processes are part of what the waste
owner must do before presenting it to the central storage facility or it may be
done at the temporary storage facility. All storage facilities are to be licenced
and stored in a packaged but retrievable way.
