Describe whether any issues, risks, or assumptions that were made were valid, or what impact these had on the project. Action Plan (Lessons Learned) Once you have identified the background and diagnosis, it is time to develop an action plan for the problem case study. In project management, Lessons Learned is a term used to describe a project post-mortem. The goal is to identify what the project team did well, as well as the areas where the project team could have improved upon, in order to provide a roadmap to future, similar type projects. Consider the players involved in the project; how decisions were made and how that could be improved. Was there a Steering Committee? Should decisions have been elevated to the Steering Committee? Who Individual Case Study – Student Guide should comprise the Steering Committee? What about the project team? Were their skills and expertise appropriate, or could the project team have been improved by incorporating other individuals with specific skills or experience. Again, this section should be supported with appropriate references. For example, if the project team suffered from the lack of appropriate resources, an appropriate citation/reference might be an academic journal article (or article from the Project Management Institute’s website) that describes the impact of having sufficient resources, or the appropriately skilled resources on a project team. This section is where you provide your recommendations, but these should not simply be personal opinions; you must substantiate these recommendations with appropriate references.
