Regina“ Genie” Holland, MCLP died peacefully in the care and comfort of her family at the Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester on April 22, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Genie spent her formative years in Newton and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School. She received her BS in Education from Regis College in Weston. She worked as a secretary for Schumacher Landscaping and eventually became their tree and plant buyer. She later worked for Weston Nurseries and Valleycrest Landscape Development where she retired and moved to Mashpee, MA.
Genie was an active member of our association. She was the first woman to serve as president of MALP in 2002 and she was recognized for her countless contributions with the 2011 Beacon Award. Genie was very proud of her MCLP designation and regularly encouraged her colleagues and others to become certified. We will always remember Genie as a true pioneer in our industry.
James R.“ Jim” Huston, 75, of Grand Lake, CO, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at his home. Jim was a transformative figure in the green industry, dedicating his life to helping others succeed. As a Certified Professional Landscape Estimator – one of two such professionals in the world – he set a standard of excellence that inspired countless landscape, tree service, and irrigation contractors. His induction into the Green Industry Hall of Fame is a testament to his outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to his profession. Beyond his technical expertise, Jim was a pioneer, founding J. R. Huston Consulting, Inc. in 1989 that fostered collaboration and problem-solving among industry professionals. These gatherings, held in diverse locations, were groundbreaking at the time and have since become a common practice, solidifying Jim ' s legacy as a true trailblazer.
In lieu of flowers her family suggests that gifts in Genie’ s memory may be sent to the Rose Monahan Hospice House, 10 Judith Rd, Worcester, MA 01602.
