PRESS RELEASE:
Sandusky, OH— Cedar Point hosted a special ceremony on Saturday, June 22, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad. Cedar Point Vice President and General Manager John Hildebrandt led the ceremony, joined by everyone’s favorite beagle, Snoopy, and the Osburn family of Columbus, Ohio, who were chosen from the crowd to be the guest conductors.
The CP & LE Railroad was the dream of one of the park’s previous owners, George Roose, and in 1963 that dream became a reality. Today, Cedar Point owns five steam-powered engines and is one of the few amusement parks in the world that still uses real coal-fired steam engines!
To commemorate this milestone in Cedar Point history throughout the 2013 season, the park will randomly select a guest conductor each day. Guest conductors will have the honor of ringing the bell as the train departs the station, and they’ll receive a special conductor hat and pin to remember their day.
