Kenyans watched in total dismay when the president eventually presented his choice of the cabinet , technocrats and state officials who would underpin his administration . It looked as though one needed a criminal record to make the cut .
Any existing hopes that the country would be run professionally based on meritocracy were dashed by the list of appointees as it became clear that the objective was to reward political cronies who had aided his ascension to power .

A state capture is a systematic corruption where narrow interest groups take control of the institutions and processes that make policy and direct public policy away from public interest to serve their own interests .
In order for this stratagem to work it is necessary to hoodwink the public that all what is being done is to the benefit of the whole otherwise one would be sowing the seed of discontent and a disgruntled mass is fodder for revolution .
This is when the lies started and although people are quite used to the many fibs and exaggerated facts by politicians the Kenya Kwanza appear to have decided that mendacity was a central part of their governing style .
The big lie , which they have maintained and repeated ad nauseum , is that they inherited empty coffers which was a calculated and brilliant way to conceal all the dubious activities in which they were soon to engage in .
The other lie was that they inherited a crippling debt burden by insatiable borrowing from the last administration and that the government was technically insolvent and everyone would have to tighten their belts as they found ways to reduce the burden .
The other brilliant stroke was to shift all the blame for any visible shortcomings onto the past administration as they lined their pockets and since they had perfected the art of vilifying and insulting them , the strategy worked well .
But as Abraham Lincoln once said , you can fool all people some of the time and some people all the time but you can never fool all the people all the time and it seems that for the Kenya Kwanza administration the chickens are starting to come home to roost .
There are far too many inconsistencies in this administration and some border on the ridiculous and as the people are finding their voice to question the nonsense and impunity the leaders have resorted to arrogance and insults .
One jarring and inconsistent message is the fact that although the administration had told everyone who cares to listen directly and by innuendo that the last administration looted public money , not a single person has to date been prosecuted for any crime .
To quote one of our creative KOX brigades who provide the much-needed comedic relief when all else seems gloomy when he posted that in Kenya the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off by Kenya Kwisha .
The lies commenced with the much-touted cheap fertilizer that was to be the answer to our food security . The only problem was that the fertilizer , which eventually was not cheap , was distributed during the height of drought .
There are however two things that the fertilizer seemed to have achieved , one was to create a totally unnecessary diplomatic gaffe involving the Sahrawi Arab Republic , demonstrating this administration ’ s poor understanding of global geopolitics .
The other was the introduction of a new word in the Kenyan political lexicon , the shareholder , as the fertilizer would first be distributed to the shareholders , meaning those that supported the current government during the elections .
To publicly declare that the country had its shareholders was not a Freudian slip but an intentional declaration that the country had ‘ its owners ’ and those not invited to the banquet could watch enviously from the periphery .
The group that has been taken on a dizzyingly wild goose chase by this administration is the one group that bought into the Kenya Kwanza carefully crafted dream of the perfect Kenya where they , the hustlers , would be invited to the table .
The dream was so compellingly woven that it created a welcome respite to the daily grind of the hustlers and they took the message to heart and they sharpened their verbal assault weapons and primed their voices plus votes to oust the dynasties .
You have to admire the oratory skill of a demagogue billionaire who can throw cash at a throng of screaming acolytes with total abandon day in day out and still manage to identify himself with the hustler cause .
Things started going south for the hustler with the publication of the infamous finance bill that proposed a slew of taxation measures and the withdrawal of subsidies that cushion vulnerable sectors to remain competitive .
