As marketers , there is a need to think on your feet . Anything can change , there must be a way out . When things go wrong , as they tend to do , always think of your plan B and plan C and plan D . In fact , prepare these contingency options so that you gracefully slide into the solutions without batting an eyelid . This is also true in your personal life especially where finances are concerned . Have an emergency fund that can help buffer you from economic shocks .

Has there ever been a time in the history of the world when there is no conflict ?
Human beings have different personalities . These personalities have different communication styles . Understanding different communication styles helps in building professional relationships .
Conflicts usually occur due to lack of trust , lack of common ground and lack of clear communication . The role of communication is to ensure understanding , so if that does not take place , it results in misunderstanding which is the beginning of conflict . Having the skills to mediate , negotiate and generally get along with everyone can lead to better collaboration and more impactful problem solving .
Marketers , how do you rate yourselves in these skills ? Here is a personal development exercise for you :
» Write down the seven skills . Reflect on each skill and rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 where 1 is poor to 10 which is excellent .
» Now ask 2 people who you trust to rate you using the same skills evaluation . What are the results ? Is there a match between how you rated yourself and how your trusted friends rated you ?
» Pick any 2 skills and devise an action plan that will move you from one end of the scale to the other end . It is as good a time as any to start planning for 2024 . As the year draws to a close , and indeed it has been an extremely tough year for all of us , we look forward to what is ahead of us .
