have a sense of land ownership apart from the community .
There are many African thinkers who state that the European quest was not to civilize the native in Africa but to domesticate him . A so-called civilized African should be an equal to the civilized European but equality never was nor is it on the table today .
These interlopers , using education and religion as the sine qua non for civilization managed to pit the Africans against themselves and eventually the very definition of progress and development was determined by the newcomer .
It was as though the African was put in a spell and blindly followed a people gifted with reason but lacking morals . They defined a group of people to be civilized if they were socially , culturally and technologically advanced . Period .
They then went ahead and determined that the yardstick to measure the cited parameters was wholly theirs . Colonization was based on duplicity and it ’ s not surprising that the current educated , hence civilized , African is also inherently corrupt .
No wonder Ochieng was not punished for asking a cheeky question since the last thing the missionary wanted was to encourage a culture of critical thinking among the Africans . It was tantamount to treason to suggest that an African could actually think .
What is so depressing is that after half a century of independence we in Kenya , representing the wider African population , have been unable to throw off the shackles of slavery , Christianity and colonialism imposed on us .
Christianity exhibits so many elements of godlissness that any church in Kenya would outdo any county assembly in terms of corruption , duplicity , greed and as purveyors of false and immoral doctrine that has made religion the fastest growing business in Kenya .
We seem to have not noticed that while the church business is booming in Kenya the same church is dying in the countries that it came from because it is no longer necessary or useful to control the African as he now oppresses himself way much better .
It was distressing to hear the sad news that a Catholic priest died at a lodging after a marathon session with a lover . The distressing part is not that a priest died but the fact that the news was received as business as usual .
Here is a priest sworn to celibacy who nonchalantly books himself into a hotel with a lover and when the news is released there is no uproar or reproach . But compared to the catholic scandals which are a dime a dozen globally , why should it be different here .
Their protestant counterparts do not fare any better and some have gone to incredible lengths and filmed their immorality and posted it on social media . Since the church seems to have been founded by perverts , what we are seeing is a fulfilment of the foundation .
What many seem to have ignored is that the name of God in African religions has not changed and contrary to misinformation Africans did not have several deities but a supreme creator who was awesome , venerated and beyond imagination .
This is in sharp contrast to Greek and Roman mythology where their plural deities were humanized and were just humans with superpowers . This background allowed Christians to be comfortable with many intercessors .
So , it is difficult to tell when Christians actually pray to God since their prayers and supplications are through Christ , the holy spirit , the father , the archangels , the saints , the prophets , the pope , the archbishops , the apostles , the evangelists , just to name a few .
The education system , a byproduct of the same flawed Christianity has been at the forefront of promoting segregation rather than unity . In Kenya the British curriculum is perceived to be superior to the local system . How warped can Kenyans get ?
Since our education system is foreign oriented , including the local one , Kenyans are taught to think like whites , speak like whites , dress like whites and the measure for having arrived is by how white one has become , complete with blonde wigs for wives and daughters .
Kenyans are still providing labor and resources to the same Europeans that colonized us and the only difference is that the current colonist is an African who is a front for the real owners of the country , the European that supposedly gave us independence in the sixties .
When economist Meszaros noted that its either socialism or barbarism , it is because he was keenly aware that the muchtouted democratic system of government creates the most severe cases of economic inequality in the world .
It is incredible that the seventy richest people in the world have a combined wealth that is more than the income of nearly four billion of the world ’ s poorest . How is this even possible in a predominantly Christian world ?
Africa was socialist way before the European political theorists coined the word , yet we abandoned the collective social safety net to adopt a system that guarantees stress and the exploitation of fellow men contrary to biblical teachings .
The politician oppressing the citizen deftly quotes this same political system that has failed to bring equity and fairness to the countries that espouse it and as the white man lackeys we sell our kith and kin to the highest bidder .
The last word on this issue is that if you see public and private scandals perpetrated by a seemingly very devout , very religious and very educated clique of leaders who lack decorum and civility is because they were assimilated by their oppressors .
We may have been forced to import injustices into our country but nobody says that we have to accept these injustices and perpetuate foreign ideologies that negate the African concept of unity and morality . The current system eminently does not work .
To get back on track we need to reclaim the African soul and ethos and to do that we have no option but to take a hard look at the foundations of society , our religious beliefs , our education systems and our politics .
As long as these three areas are not home grown , Kenyans and Africans at large will continue to play second fiddle to whomever calls the tune and we all know that the one with the purse always calls the tune . Its time for Africa to reflect !
