Regardless of the price of wheat flour , the cost of mandazi has not changed in a long time , it has remained at ten Kenyan shillings . Apparently , those who make mandazis may have a trick up the sleeves that can help marketers maintain the price of their brand in an environment of increasing cost of living . In your pricing strategy you may consider the mandazi wisdom and thank me later .

Ukraine War Continues To “ Kuturamba ” With Earth Shattering Effects

By Boniface Ngahu

In the recent times on this column , we looked at the Russian war in Ukraine from a butterfly effect and chaos theory perspective .

The Chaos Theory is based on the observation that within the randomness of complex chaotic systems , there are underlying patterns , interconnectedness , constant feedback loops , repetition , self-similarity , fractals ( similar patterns recur at progressively smaller scales describing partly random and chaotic phenomena ), and self-organization . This means that chaos usually gets their own life , keep being reinvented into many forms and people organize themselves accordingly .
Scientifically , it talks about the paradox of unpredictable behavior where two incompatible systems get surprisingly connected . For example , based on the increasing cost of living , researchers have observed that the middle class has started to shift from high priced brands to less popular and appropriately priced ones .

The butterfly effect is related to the Chaos Theory but is based on small changes on initial conditions causing largescale changes later with the analogy of a butterfly in Tokyo flapping its wings causing a tornado in Toronto .
My argument then was that , however far anyone is from Ukraine the war will impact their life one way or the other and therefore paying attention to it can help us prepare for the uncertain future that the war was signaling . I was coming from a scenario analysis position given that not much had happened by then , looking back with the benefit of hindsight the war has really affected so many facets of life than we would have ever imagined .
Using the words of pastor Mackenzie who is in the custody of the Kenyan government for leading a sect that convinced hundreds to fast to death in order to see Jesus , the war has come to “ kuturamba ” ( Luhya Kenyan community word for troubling us ) with far reaching effects . Let ’ s look at some of the consequences of the war both intended and unintended .
The Sanctions Resulted in Acceleration of Renewable Energy in Europe With Germany going Into a Recession
In February 2022 the Russian armed forces invaded Ukraine escalating a war that started in 2014 . In the past we mentioned how this war resulted in regular tourist charter flights to Mombasa in the coast of Kenya coming to a sudden stop reducing tourists flow into Kenya . With time , more drastic impacts have been experienced . As governments from all over the world condemned the act by Russians some were silent choosing to be non-partisan while a few supported the war .
Economic sanctions on Russia and some of its big banks saw some big brands withdraw from the country among other widespread economic effects on the Russian and world economies . One of the good effects of the war was the rapid expansion of renewable energy investments in Europe as the EU members worked hard on replacing and gradually phasing out the Russian fossil fuels energy .
