Ochieng remembers his wife narrating a curious and interesting story of an incidence that took place during her high school days in western Kenya where she was in a boarding school that was the sister school to his school .
Apparently , a teacher caught a student reading a letter that she had surreptitiously placed in her biology textbook and she was so engrossed in the letter that she did not notice the teacher as she walked towards her .
It was a three-page love letter , which was not at all strange in those days but as the teacher read the letter she became visibly angry and forthwith frog marched the errant student to the headmistress ’ s office leaving the other students puzzled .
Surely a love letter could not elicit such a strong reaction from even that particular teacher , who was not only a spinster but had such a strict demeanor that the standard joke in the school was who would find her a man to put a smile on her face .

But things were just about to take a turn for the worse for the culprit , a very pretty and seemingly shy student , who was a good student and the self-effacing type that never seemed to ever get into any trouble .
As it transpired , the content of the letter was such that the headmistress demanded to know the name of the boy that had sent it and as the girl refused to disclose the name of the boy the headmistress threatened to call in her parents .
That was when she reluctantly confessed that the letter was not from a boy but from a senior girl in the same school who as the letter claimed was deeply in love with her and the letter was part Lyly discussing their future as a couple .
This shocking information flashed through school like a wildfire and everywhere girls in groups could be seen talking in hushed tones about the new development but nobody seemed to know what to do next .
