confidence in his own capability causes him to get into unnecessary verbal exchange with his boss . Irrespective of how unpopular a boss is , insubordination is never a positive trait and should never be displayed .
It is disturbing that the DP was proestablishment during his college days and was among those reactionary groups of students who wanted to maintain the status quo and were funded by the state to scuttle any political change .
The DP was also in the infamous Youth for KANU group and the best we can describe them is as heirs to the home-guards and if truth be told should have exited the political arena with Moi as their godfather . This is a blatant recycling of the Moi error .
To his credit he is a fantastic mobilizer and has achieved a remarkable feat of being more popular than his boss in his backyard which is perhaps why he feels confident enough to trash the boss knowing he is in safe territory , the trick is to know how far one can go too far .
To be from a community that is perceived to have reigned terror on the Kikuyu community in Rift Valley during the PEV and manage to garner their support politically is an astounding achievement but it is wise to remember that negative memories are never too far from the surface .
He has picked a fellow reactionary , a fellow establishment sympathizer from the college days and also a good grass root mobilizer although relatively a political neophyte . Conscious that he is not from the mountain area the DP may have felt the need to safeguard his back .
The only drawback the duo has is that they are very alike especially in brashness and run the risk of rubbing many of their supporters the wrong way . Both have deep pockets and both have ongoing court cases , one at The Hague and the other locally .
To undo the commanding lead that the DP has garnered over a five year period that he has tirelessly worked his base will be a herculean task but isn ’ t that what good theater is all about , to wait with bated breath to see who will have the last laugh .
It is rare for a producer and stage manager to get directly involved in a play but as we have maintained we live in strange times . The producer walks on stage and has a firm handshake with one protagonist , a move that was not in the script .
The other protagonist , caught totally unawares , decides to not wait for the producer to provide a new script and decides to improvise and adlib to the consternation of the producer . The problem is that the audience seems to find the off-script banter quite entertaining and the show continues .
All good theatrical productions must have a villain and in our setting that villain is the watermelon , the prevaricating and indecisive character that has managed to play leading roles in the Kenyan political theater while still not commanding any sizable constituency .
Nobody bothers to take him very seriously and his pre-running mate nomination drama only makes the journey to August just that more interesting and his quitting the Azimio coalition in a huff when he was not picked the running mate cements his position as a permanent dramatis persona in Kenya .
He caused a seismic disturbance by endorsing Sonko to run for Mombasa governorship on a Wiper ticket . The endorsement of an impeached governor by a lawyer speaks volumes about what Kenyans think about the rule of law . The politico class is evidently above the law .
It would be a travesty of justice to clear Sonko to run for governor but the most shocking truth is that if he is , he is popular enough to clinch the seat . Kenyans are like the proverbial moth that enjoys playing with the fire that eventually consumes it .
His own quip that he shall pass between them in the night without them realizing , probably best describes the person he is and that his indecision is his strength . As irritating as he is to so many people you still cannot ignore him and is this duel he may unwittingly have the casting vote .
The western duo of Madvd and Weta have always played the role of court jesters , and as one observer commented that they reminded him of the relatives who come visiting without remembering to bring the traditional kikapu but still expect to be fed royally .
The two provide comic relief to an otherwise somber political theater that is too serious and calculating and they provide the Mulembe nation an avenue to vent out their frustrations as they seem to never consult the electorate before taking a stand .
It is quite surprising to see the two in the same camp for so long as the infighting between the two is endless and their internal supremacy feuds has ensured that the nation has never succeeded in speaking as a unit . The irony is that now that they agree , the nation is not listening .
We did also have two Johnny come lately auditions for the national theater by Governors Mutua and Kingi . They switched allegiances after claiming that the Azimio stable was not recognizing their immense talent and signed up illegally with the Kwanza outfit .
From where we sit it appears that the two are equally ignored in the Kwanza stable and since they can ’ t afford to be labeled watermelons since that role is already taken then they just have to put up with the supporting role they have been assigned and hope to prove their mettle on the ground .
Both sides have been dangling carrots of positions that do not exist in the constitution in the hope of cornering the tribal vote but it is now more obvious than before that the elections are not about the people but about the political class .
We stated on the outset that irrespective of who wins the August duel democracy would have suffered a mortal blow due to a combination of a weak and impractical constitution that should never have been allowed to pass with the flaws and an amoral self-serving political class .
Even those that want to change the constitution want to change it for the wrong reasons and probably this is one time we need divine intervention to navigate these choppy waters but those that intercede for us are already compromised .
Irrespective of who wins , Kenya will never be the same again since so much rot was publicly exposed and we believe the seed of resistance has been sown and it is our sincere hope that it will germinate and enable Wanjiku to reclaim her country .
Many Kenyans are angered by the blatant theatrics and dishonesty of the political class and as Abraham Lincoln aptly stated , you can fool all the people some of the time , and some of the people all the time , but you cannot fool all the people all the time !
