So due to the similarities in existence in the development of reproductive organs of males and females , female ejaculation can be said to exist and occurs during orgasm by producing fluids from the Skene ’ s gland . This fluid , as we have seen above , is milky in appearance and is a few millilitres in volume .
Despite having seen this , the topic is still not without controversies . This is due to the fact that some scientists have recently dismissed the existence of G spot as well as existence of female ejaculation . In their augments , they attribute the expulsion of fluid to a wider stimulation of deep urinary structures during sexual intercourse , leading to urethral fluid expulsion . Others state that the G spot varies in prevalence and heritability but has no physical identity .
But still . For the ones who clearly state that female ejaculation exists , the question of its purpose still persists . In males we all know that ejaculation has a specific purpose of expelling sperms and ensuring that the sperms are in a fluid environment as they are expelled during male orgasm .
As for the females , even though still debatable , there have been speculations that the female ejaculation expels fluids which have anti-bacterial properties for the purpose of preventing urinary tract infections after sexual intercourse .
Squirting
In an article appearing in the Journal of Sexual Medicine , an experiment was performed on seven women in order to find out the true origin of the fluid expelled during squirting . The women selected to participate in this experiment were ones with no gynaecological abnormalities and who reported recurrent and excessive fluid emission during sexual stimulation . A series of pelvic ultrasounds were performed on them .
The first ultrasound was performed after voiding of urine prior to sexual stimulation to show that the urinary bladder was empty . The second one was performed during sexual stimulation , but before squirting and the final one after squirting . In all participants , it was confirmed that the bladder was empty by the first ultrasound after voiding it . After variable time of sexual stimulation , before squirting , the second ultrasound showed a noticeable urinary bladder refill and the final ultrasound performed just after squirting demonstrated that the bladder was emptied again .
In addition to the experiment by ultrasound , the urine was taken to laboratory for biochemical analysis of its contents including urea , creatinine , uric acid ( these are usually found in urine ) and prostatic specific antigen ( This is usually found in secretions from the prostate in male and from the Skene ’ s gland in females ). The squirting sample was also analysed .
The results showed that in all the seven participants the urine voided before and after sexual stimulation and the squirting sample contained urea , creatinine and uric acid . Prostatic specific antigen was however not detected in the urine sample voided before stimulation in six out of seven participants . It was however present in both squirting sample and the sample voided after sexual stimulation .
This experiment concluded that squirting was essentially the involuntary emission of urine during sexual activity , although a marginal contribution of prostatic secretions to the emitted fluid often exists . From this experiment , it comes to light that squirting is a phenomenon which result from sexual arousal . Sexual arousal also leads to ejaculation , with release of fluids from the Skene ’ s gland . This mixes with urine and they come out together . This process of gushing out of urine is also involuntary and the women who experience it are caught unawares . The two phenomena , though distinct , leads to expulsion of fluids from different origins and are synonymously called squirting .
Social Impact
The above experiment which attributed the squirting fluid to being made of urine generated a debate after it was seen by some women as an attempt to shame them . This was after newspaper headlines such as “ Squirting is Just Pee , Say Scientists ” appeared in response to the release of the data from the experiment . It led to a hashtag # NotPee being created stating that the study shamed women for enjoying orgasm .
Scientifically , the voice of women has rarely been heard in order to assess the social impact of squirting . In a questionnairebased study performed on 1230 women working in health-related field in USA and Canada , 40 % reported experience of ejaculation . Some of these women reported holding back ejaculation due to fear of urinating ( due to self-consciousness ). In another international survey done on women ( nearly all from the Global North ) who had experiences of female ejaculation / squirting , 80 % of the participants stated that squirting enriched their sexual lives . 10 % were indifferent while the remaining 10 % wished that they rather not ejaculate .
A study is USA ( Gilliland , 2009 ) also concluded that awareness of existence of female ejaculation played a role in how it is experienced , and the earlier a woman experience it the more likely she will subsequently experience it . Some women felt ashamed of ejaculation and wondered what the fluid is made of . In countries like Rwanda and Ghana however , female ejaculation / squirting is seen to play a role in female pleasure and the sexual script ( Fiaveh et al ., 2015 ; Larsen , 2010 ).
From the above social experiences , it is obvious that to women , female ejaculation / squirting elicits different responses with one group having a feeling of amazement , pride , and a feeling of assessing of sexual superpower and the second group of women being indifferent and having disconnection from an orgasmic feeling while a third group has a feeling of discomfort and shame .
What about our situation back home ? Not so many women are bold enough to speak out about experience of ejaculation / squirting in the local environment . The ones who speak about it also have varying opinions similar to the ones in the abovementioned studies , with some stating that it varies from partner to partner and it depends on how connected one is to her sexual partner . Some are also more concerned about how their sexual partners will judge them , choosing instead to wilfully withhold ejaculation .
In conclusion , it can be stated that the subject of female ejaculation / squirting is still controversial , with divergent opinions , both in the scientific and social spheres . More studies need to be put into it and women too need to open up to the subject in order for us to gain more knowledge about it .
