important to be a powerful and prolific communicator , as perhaps , the most important aspect of being a leader is communication . You can be incredibly innovative and technically gifted but if you lack effective communication skills to put across your thoughts , your ideas will struggle to get off the ground .
In conclusion I can say without fear of contradiction that I would have taken far much longer and my journey would have been far less smooth had I not worked tirelessly to further my education . To this end I advise those pursuing academic qualifications to embark on the relevant professional ones as well . This simultaneous pursuit enriches ones skills especially time management and instils the requisite discipline for growth . Furthermore this calls for multitasking which an important skill in career advancement . Also important , my experience has taught me is the need to know what employees are seeking as one makes their academic and professional choices .
Kindly take us through a summary of the mandate of KASNEB and its achievements so far .
KASNEB was established by the Government of Kenya as a state corporation under the National Treasury on 24 July 1969 to empower professionals by offering quality examinations and undertaking research and innovation . It envisions itself as a global leader in examination and certification of business professionals in the fields of Accountancy , Finance , Credit , Governance , Management and Information Communication Technology . In fulfilling this mandate , KASNEB develops syllabuses , conducts examinations and awards certification as well as accrediting the training institutions offering courses for the above , in collaboration with the Ministry of Education .
KASNEB continues to fulfil this obligation having examined and certified hundreds of thousands of business professionals in diverse fields . These professionals are playing critical roles in the development of the country , the African continent and even beyond . Furthermore , KASNEB has maintained the quality of its examinations , improved and enhanced its syllabuses , promoted the recognition of its qualifications in many countries and accredited numerous

training institutions not just in Kenya but globally . In short , KASNEB has greatly enriched and enhanced the educational sector in Kenya and across the borders . In addition it has promoted and carried out research in diverse areas and published numerous materials relevant to its areas of examination .
In 2019 , KASNEB celebrated its 50th birthday . What would you say have been the key milestones and achievements ?
At KASNEB we are proud of many achievements and indeed there have been many milestones so I will highlight just a few . We have implemented an ERP system , rolled out a new brand identity in line with the changing times and acquired our own premises namely KASNEB Towers I and KASNEB Towers II in Upper Hill Nairobi . Furthermore , we have been recognized through ISO certification and received very good scores in the evaluation stage of Performance Contracting ( PC ). More importantly , our qualifications are internationally recognized .
We have established fruitful strategic partnerships and collaborations with a number of organizations such as IFAC , ICPAK , ICS , ICM , KUCCPS to name but a few . These relationships have proved pivotal in delivering our mandate to the benefit of all those who seek to further their qualifications .
Finally , we have improved our staff welfare and also established the KASNEB Foundation whose purpose is to make a difference in the lives of those who are genuinely in need of help .
What challenges has KASNEB had to overcome to achieve the above ?
Like every organization , we have been affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic which has caused disruptions in our operations such as low enrollment of students . This has negatively affected our cash flow and occasioned financial constraints . Freezing of employment by the Government has restricted our plans to hire more people to build our capacity to better serve our growing market . The frequent education sector reforms are also a constant challenge considering the need to keep up with the ever-changing requirements .
What are your future plans to take KASNEB to the next level ?
We have a number of initiatives but I will highlight three which are aimed at widening our net as well as improving the quality of our services . To enhance service delivery , we plan to open more KASNEB Liaison Offices at Huduma Centres . We are also looking to broaden our programs and areas of certification . In the same vein , we are looking to invest more in research and to administer computerbased examinations from the December 2021 sitting . We are also working towards offering examinations in foreign languages and increasing our international partnerships and collaborations .
Marketing , unlike the professions you represent under KASNEB , does not have a body with your kind of mandate . How do you think we can go about establishing such a body and what would be the benefits ?
