placed on them . Whereas it is prudent to ascertain the individuals that should take responsibility , it should not be the first and only thing we do . The blame game in many cases escalates to a fight of personalities and objectivity is lost . In the spirit of humanity and greater good we should not hold prisoners but rather pursue solutions . Let our actions harbor in the port of goodwill .
Anchor On Faith
Disasters have been associated with the wrath of God . It is said that when we vex God , the heavens and all deities conspire to punish the earth . This punishment comes in form of disasters and shakes humanity to the core . It is believed that this then shakes us back to our senses and we then have an opportunity to repent . God is a jealous and whereas He is slow to anger He takes everything into account . And being a just God , He apportions to each one of us their fair share of blessings while still allowing bad things to happen to us for His glory .
Hatch The Rebirth
A roosting hen has peculiar habits . It reminds us of how to keep focus on the main thing . A roosting hen prepares herself when laying eggs , setting out early and picking the best of bits for nutrition . The hen also prepares the nest in which the hatching will take place . It goes further to groom its feathers , sharpen its beak and build its fight .
In the roosting period it does nothing other than warm its eggs and keep charge . After hatching , it never dwells on the unhatched eggs but takes charge to nurture those that come out successful . In the event that one of the chicks is taken by mistake or succumbs then it quickly shakes the loss off and protects the remaining pack . Can we quickly grow out of loss and build up ? Can we successfully hatch a rebirth of the new and fresh ?
Yes we can ! Japan stands out as one of the best case studies of post-disaster recovery . Their resilience and quick sustainable turn-around is most admirable . They have had one too many disaster from 1945 up until the other day on the 11th March 2011 when a nuclear reactor in Fukushima was hit by a tsunami .
Tokyo Electric Company together with government and goodwill organizations quickly sprang into action . From the containment of the radiation spread , evacuation of people , treatment and rebuilding of the plant and the neighboring community . The focus was to save the day and build upwards . The damage was a heart-sore affair .
The pain and anguish notwithstanding , the swiftness of their actions built hope and set lives of the survivors including families of those who succumbed on a speedy recovery . The media coverage of this recovery by CNN and BBC reported an almost unimaginable change of circumstances from devastation to productivity and healing .
When disaster and the unfortunate happens , focus should be on building up and out of devastation . The sooner we chart a new path of recovery the more we become resilient .
