The DStv App gives customers access to hundreds of live channels from sports , to movies , news , music and much more on the smartphone , tablet or on the laptop . It allows multiple users on one account allowing a dual streaming option where you can watch up to two streams at a time ; create personalized profiles meaning that you and up to six family members can set up your own unique viewing options ; and it allows users to download their favourite movies , telenovelas and sporting events to watch later .
Showmax and Showmax PRO
Showmax was the first over-the-top platform in Africa to offer sports , local content , live stream news and FTA channels on the Showmax Pro service . We are proud to say that Showmax has taken online streaming by storm , particularly during the lockdown period . Showmax was the first streaming service to make mobile downloads possible for offline viewing and to launch a mobile-only plan , a move that has since been followed by other key players .
In addition to our entertainment offering includes the best of HBO as well as numerous award-winning movies , series and kids ' shows from international distributors and we have put a lot of energy into growing and curating our African catalogue with the biggest slate of Originals coming up this year , including our first Kenyan Original , Crime & Justice . We ’ ve seen steady growth in local content viewership across the continent over the past 12 months on Showmax and Showmax Pro as a result .
Showmax Pro bundles the existing Showmax entertainment offering with music channels , news , live sports streaming from SuperSport and freeto-air local channels . Live sport featured on Showmax Pro includes all Premier League , Serie A , La Liga , and PSL games as well as athletics , professional boxing , and the world ’ s biggest marathons .

At MultiChoice , our absolute focus is to leverage technology and become obsessed with pleasing our customers by telling stories that connect with them .

( they can be everywhere and anywhere ); tribal ( gathering around similarities ) and singular ( entrepreneurial , be who they want to be ).
To survive and grow , industry players need to find new ways of engaging more effectively with viewers especially now when there is more choices than ever , more free content than ever , shorter , more entertaining versions of it and our customers are becoming more and more accustomed to receiving personalized content that talks to their specific requirements often seemingly for free .
Producers and content creators must adapt their content to the shifting consumer behavior and offer content on both linear ( TV , film ) and over the top ( OTT ) platforms such as Showmax . Short and long format feature films will also need to be created side-by-side for the shorter attention spans and longer binge watching moments .
How has content been disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic and how were you able to redefine yourselves in this space ?
The pandemic disrupted industries across the world and we were not spared either . Last year , there were major disruptions on our content schedules , but we were still able to give our customers a full viewing schedule through content remodeling . The SuperSport viewing schedule was heavily impacted due to cancellations of sporting events globally , but we adjusted our sports scheduling accordingly to give our commercial and retail customers the best of sports through reliving the greatest sporting moments in history in the absence of live sports .
We also managed to safeguard jobs and incomes for our employees and production crews . We announced measures aimed at safeguarding the incomes of cast , crew , and creatives as well as the sustainability of production houses across Africa through Jobs kitty , MultiChoice Talent Factory , and Safeguarding our freelancers where we committed to guarantee the incomes of freelancers including sales teams as well as SMEs , who were unable to work due to the suspension of sport and national lockdowns in numerous countries . This extended to guaranteeing the income of freelancers in our broadcast technology environment .
