programs so they can be offered on-line , via Zoom , and now there ’ s an opportunity as you can participate in Mindscapes Training without flying us in and blocking 2-3 days of training . We have been running once or twice a week sessions over 2-3 hours spread over a month for example . This is good both for the company and for us . We have also started doing a lot of collaborations with companies that have gone through a hard time and working on strategies on how to survive and grow stronger .
What in your considered view , is the future of the advertising industry in Africa ? How should we handle this pandemic from an overall business perspective ?
Markets in Africa are relatively young and I think that brands and companies that quickly adapt themselves to seeing new opportunities have a lot of growth potential . There is also a lot of potential to do good and to make this world a better place . My view is that brands have a strong role to play in this and those that discover and do something that others haven ’ t will go a very long way .
You are rolling out the 6th Edition of Mindscapes Masterclass in Kenya end of April 2021 . What is the theme and what should delegates look forward to ?
The theme is , ‘ How does one use small budgets and limited resources to create impact ’. We will learn from other companies that used very creative and inventive thinking with budget constraints to make a big impact . We will look at various tools that will enable us achieve this outcome .
Tell us briefly about yourself and how you got started off in your profession .
My professional background started in music . I then moved to advertising where
I worked in several positions at DDB and Publicis . I then joined a consulting company that specialized in Constructive Inventive Thinking . But when I heard about this Russian engineer and learnt about his thinking tools , I started Mindscapes , which I have now run for sixteen years .
My advise is go where your heart leads you . Do what you do with love and with passion and try to explore how you can connect with others to have better results . Think of how you can work together , think together and explore how you can grow . I strongly believe that the sum of one is more than two .
