for their rights. This of course in no way means that the entire
burden should be on women. For women especially, power lies
in numbers. We need to support each other and debunk the
myth that women are their own worst enemies. On the contrary,
the more women there are at the top the more women will be
empowered.
On the day, March 8th 2020, there were a number of
organizations that recognized women and their female staff and
let us know the efforts they’re making to ensure a culture and
workplace that’s conducive for women.
Kenya Airways set aside three special flights to fete its female
aviators by making them lead pilots. Unilever let us know
that they are closing the gender gap with 50 percent women
at managerial levels across Unilever up from 38% in 2010.
East African Breweries Limited (EABL) has launched an
apprenticeship programme for female university students across
East Africa taking courses in Science, Technology, Engineering
and Mathematics (STEM) to give them a learning opportunity.
Standard Chartered Bank has improved the lives of its female
staff through a number of initiatives including increasing
maternal leave to 6 months. To these organizations and more,
on behalf of all women, thank you! You give us hope.
They try so much
In conclusion, here-under is one of my best poems by Maya But they can't touch
Angelou, as a celebration of all women out there and myself, My inner mystery.
Phenomenal Woman!
When I try to show them
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,bv
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
The palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
