We will be involved in the whole
process of buying, we have a Posta
wallet so you can actually buy, pay
and we can deliver from any site
across the world be it Amazon,
AliBaba, ebay or any other site that
sells products online.
We want to become the hub of this
business since we have the capacity to
do that. We are already doing this with
Kenyan sites such as Jumia and Kilimall
where we deliver their products but we
want to get into the core business where
you can order, we can pick and deliver
right to your doorstep.
There’s a product we introduced
a few months ago called M-Post,
tag lined “Posta Mkononi” which
basically now allows one to use
their phone as a Post Office Box.
It is convenient in that once mail
is received at the Post Office a
notification is sent to the phone
and the mail can be delivered
across the country. The virtual
box is affordable and with mobile
based service communal sharing
of boxes is eliminated hence
enhancing security and privacy.
There was the initiative about
numbering buildings and residences
by streets which would enable
the Post Office to deliver parcels
to physical addresses, what is the
progress with that?
That is being done by the
Communication Authority in
conjunction with a number of
stakeholders. We are involved in
the initiative because it is the next
phase of the postal business where
deliveries are done to recipients’
physical address. Others involved are
‘‘ The service has kept improving and with
technology change, the way mail was delivered
changed and has kept evolving. Initially it was
land then it went to air and sea and eventually
it came to the phone and modern technology
involving computers which brought email and
the internet.’’

the Ministry of Lands, Roads and
security agencies.
Now that we have Google Maps and
other technology based tools the process
is going to be easier going forward.
One major challenge with that
initiative is the haphazard and
unplanned manner developments
have taken place across the country.
You can imagine the challenge of
getting such a system underway in
informal settlements like Kibera,
Mathare, Kawangware, or even
in the formal areas like Githurai,
Umoja, Dandora and Buru Buru estates.
