Houston Money Week Activities at Harris County Parker Williams Branch Library.
Texas A&M AgriLife and the Harris County Parker Williams Branch Library partnered to conduct several events to correspond with Houston Money Week. Houston Money Week (HMW) is a community-wide financial education initiative that empowers families and individuals to be successful in making financial choices. Elizabeth Trejo, County Extension Agent-Family and Community Health partnered with Steve Zach, Assistant Branch Librarian and John Harbaugh, Children Services Librarian at Parker Williams Branch Library to conduct three financial management sessions. 42 adults and youth attended the event.
The first session, I.D. Theft, was directed at adults: When Bad Things Happen to Your Good Name. Consumers were given an opportunity to learn about the high incidence of identity theft, what are some safeguards against it, and what steps to take if you become a victim.
The following two sessions were focused on parents and children. Thrive by Five -Teaching Your Preschoolers About Spending and Saving was conducted on April 18 and 19. The sessions provided parents with free activities and other resources to encourage healthy attitudes about money in young children.
