Annually, contests are held throughout each of the 254 counties in Texas, the twelve Texas A&M AgriLife Extension districts, and at the state level. Harris County provides its 4-H members with the opportunity to showcase their skills and hard work at the Harris County 4-H Round Up. This county level competition gives youth the opportunity to participate in non-livestock competitions that are offered through the Texas 4-H Program.
Contests provide the following: Food Challenge, Food Show, Consumer Decision Making, Healthy Lifestyles, Share the Fun, Educational Presentations, Discover Scientific Method Research Poster, Fashion Storyboard, Duds to Dazzle, Fashion Show, and Photography.
Participation at the county round-up is required to qualify for participation at the District level. This year, Harris County saw the largest number of participants to ever compete. There were 96 youth participants competing in the 12 available events, over two days. We had 14 Food Challenge Teams, 9 Food Show, 1 Consumer Decision Making, 2 Healthy lifestyles, 9 Educational Presentations, 12 Share the Fun, 2 Research Poster, and 6 in Fashion Competitions. Youth were given ribbons based on placings.
Since District 9 allows an unlimited number of participants to compete at the district level, all 96 youth are eligible to participate at the District Level. 10 senior level students will compete in 15 photography categories at the state level.
