Livestock Validation

AGRICULTURE & NATURAL RESOURCES

4-H Agents, Marcus Glenn and Ricky Mahaley, and the Agriculture and Natural Resource (ANR) Agent, Christian Malsatzki, conducted the Harris County validation for heifers, steers, swine, goat, and lamb. Livestock validation, organized by the Harris County 4-H Department, allowed youth livestock show participants to get their animals ready for Statewide Fairs and Livestock shows, as well as allowed the 4-H office to collect and file all of the proper paperwork.

Many first time participants and their parents, learned the procedure for animal validation in Harris county, as well as being provided the opportunity to interact with the Agriculture/Natural Resources and 4-H Agents so they could learn the animal validation process, as well as proper handling skills and how to keep from stressing their animals. The Agents were able to speak with many individuals on proper animal care and procedure, as well as health and disease/contamination security best practices.

Local Agricultural Science teachers work I'm conjuctioin with the 4-H staff to collect hair samples, nose prints, ear tags and tattoos, for approximately 44 Heifers, 170 Steer, 71 Swine, 32 Goats, and 35 Lambs.
