This is the flavour we love in our‘ moreish’ foods like Chinese and pizza!
Western scientists have only recently recognised it as the " fifth taste ", after salt, sweet, sour and bitter.
Studies confirmed just a few years ago that our mouths contain taste receptors for this‘ moreish’ savoury taste.
The ten main foods we find natural Umami in are:

Parmesan cheese

Tomatoes

Mushrooms

Kombu seaweed

Sweetcorn & carrots

Beef, chicken & pork

Soy sauce

Black olives

Asparagus
