Introduction
At the start of the year , some of the Italian exchange students taught us how to make pizza in our school . One of the boys , Luigi , works in his father ’ s pizza parlour at weekends . He showed us how to make pizza base from scratch and put on our own toppings . The pizzas were gorgeous !
We got the idea for our make a book from our pizza demonstration and talking about how much everyone likes cooking in Home Economics class . We talked about our favourite recipes , and realised we all like savoury foods .
During our research for our book , we learned about the taste buds , and heard of ‘ Umami ’ for the first time . We thought it was a great title for the book because it means ‘ savoury ’ like all our favourite recipes . It also means ‘ yummy ’ in Japanese !
