Policy on overtime
As a matter of general policy, the interns are discouraged from rendering overtime work. They are supposed to stick to their pre-set eight-hour work schedule (8 am to 5 pm unless otherwise explicitly amended), and their host unit supervisors are supposed to make sure that they do so. It would be best for the interns to appreciate the nature and significance of their work early enough and then learn to pace themselves accordingly. It would likewise be best for interns to avoid thinking of overtime work as a way of off-setting tardiness and absence.
But then, under what circumstances could the interns be allowed to render overtime work?
Quick answer: If there truly is a need for their services as certified by the host unit supervisors.
That means overtime work is demand-driven, has to be rendered only at the behest of the host unit supervisors, and is subject to the following additional conditions: (1) there are organic SEC personnel who are available to supervise the interns and (2) either the Internship Program Manager or Internship Action Officer is informed beforehand about the request for overtime services.
Overtime work is rendered only when required.
