The opportunities to stargaze have become increasingly rare in the modern world . While Aroostook County doesn ’ t have any formally designated Dark Sky Parks , as part of the International Dark-Sky Association ( IDA ), it features several natural areas that are prized for their dark skies and minimal light pollution , making them ideal for stargazing .
1 . Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge
This refuge offers open spaces and minimal artificial lighting , creating a pristine environment for stargazing . It ’ s home to diverse wildlife , adding a natural element to your nighttime experience .
2 . Mars Hill Mountain
Mars Hill Mountain provides elevated views and reduced light interference from nearby towns , making it a popular spot for observing meteor showers and other celestial events .
3 . Deboullie Public Reserved Land
Known for its rugged beauty and pristine conditions , it ’ s a perfect place for stargazing , especially during clear nights when the Milky Way is visible .
