This central area of The Maine Highlands region boasts more than 31 lakes to enjoy boating , canoeing , fishing , swimming , ice skating , and more . Lincoln is home to some of the most beautiful lakes in the state ; 13 in all and referred to as The Lincoln Lakes .

In the summer , Mattanawcook Pond is the perfect place for swimming , boating , and fishing . In the winter , rent ice skates from the Lincoln Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce and enjoy the local ice rink surrounded by twinkling holiday lights or cheer on the locals in the annual ice fishing derby .
SEBEC LAKE
Sebec Lake is a family getaway dream . This peaceful lake is known for its fishing including native landlocked salmon , lake trout , and smallmouth bass . There are even plenty of sunfish for the kids to catch right off the dock . You ’ ll find many options for waterfront cottage rentals with great swimming and beautiful sunset views .
PENOBSCOT RIVER
The longest river in the state of Maine , the Penobscot River provides a variety of recreational opportunities including fly fishing and moose watching tours . Guided white water rafting adventures take you on a thrilling ride with stunning scenery and class 5 rapids on what ’ s lovingly referred to as “ Maine ’ s Most Challenging River .”
