Jenness Lobby - Rebecca DeWan, clinician
Reading session for middle school and high school choirs. The

Open Middle School Band Rehearsal
CCA Stage - Reeds Brook Middle School with Tiffany Hitz,
clinician
Companion Guides are teacher-created study guides that turn a
piece of music into a pseudo-method book, highlighting aspects of
the music that will be most time-consuming or present the greatest
challenge during the rehearsal process. Companion Guides are
powerful tools that enable students to fully engage in collaboration
by ensuring that ALL students are active participants throughout
the ENTIRE rehearsal process. Companion Guides also provide
embedded differentiation to ensure progress and success for
everyone, including ensembles with mixed abilities.
In this rehearsal clinic, students will demonstrate how the use of a
Companion Guide enhances their engagement and participation
while learning a piece of music and allows the director to work
efficiently to address individual and ensemble needs, resulting in a
more polished and authentic performance that better meets the
composer's intent. Attendees will leave with a Companion Guide
example and the framework to create Companion Guides for their
ensembles.
