Given the nature of the piece, it would seem that there were creative
challenges. Were these unique? It’s not every day you have to write a piece
about a serial killer.
AB: Well, that’s definitely true! I think every piece brings its own challenges, although
this particular one presented me with a lot to think about. I enjoyed the challenge,
though, and feel that it forced me to move out of my comfort zone and hopefully create a
piece that is fresh and engaging.
Andrew Boysen, Jr. is assistant professor in the music department of the University of New
Hampshire, where he conducts Wind Symphony and teaches conducting, composition and
