The mission of our organization stays as it has always been: To promote and
advance music education by providing a voice and venue for advocacy and
advancement of music education in Maine. This mission aligns with the
values as stated by NAfME to work with and for community, stewardship,
comprehensiveness, inclusion and equity and innovation.
The mission and values guided our areas of focus. This Strategic Plan, as
seen in the Bulletin in it’s entirety, will guide us through my term as
President into June of 2018. The areas of focus will be Governance,
Membership, Advocacy and Diversity.
In the area of Governance the task of annually revisiting and revamping the
handbook will continue. MMEA will attain insurance covering the members of
the board on the state and district levels. Self evaluations will take place for
each officer. A long term goal is to align the financial documents and policies
for MMEA and all districts.
In the area of Membership we will celebrate the Centennial of MMEA by
kicking off a membership campaign. The first one hundred new or lapsed
(three or more years) members to join MMEA will pay only $100! We will
begin work on a statewide directory of music educators and will use a new
email server that will allow us to track the effectiveness of our mailings.
In the area of Advocacy we have much work to do! We, as music educators,
must have a voice at the table on the state level regarding legislation that
directly impacts our teaching and our students. Maine is the only state that
