A Musician who is:
1. PREPARED
⏭ Has required folder with music and pencil
⏭ Has instrument and appropriate supplies
⏭ Is ready to begin rehearsal
⏭ Is ready to use technology support as needed e.g. laptop, MusicFirst, Google
Classroom
2. ENGAGED
⏭ Participates actively in rehearsal
⏭ Listens to instruction without talking
⏭ Uses indirect instructional time effectively
⏭ Is a positive member of the ensemble (Leadership)
3. FOCUSED
⏭ Concentrates
⏭ Is confident and creative
⏭ Responds musically to the conductor and ensemble
Are YOU a PREPARED, ENGAGED, FOCUSED musician?
This rubric is displayed in both the BJH Band room and Chorus room. It is up all of the
time. I refer to it often during my choral rehearsals and it is the basis for my daily
participation grade for each student. I often choose to focus on one aspect of the rubric
during rehearsal such as indirect instructional time, but the expectation is that students
will meet all of the above standards all of the time.
