Assessment Tools, Growth Tracking, Tigers and Bears, Oh My!

TOOLS FOR MAKING ASSESSMENT MANAGEABLE AND FUN.

Managing the task of tracking student growth, collecting data, implementing valid assessments and still making elective music classes fun and engaging, is a task that leaves me wishing I had the benefit of an omnipotent wizard to magically make sense of our ever changing world of music teaching. Thankfully, Google search and the helpful knowledge of fellow educators has been all the yellow brick road I have needed. I am in no way an expert, but I will share what I have found and look forward to using in my classroom. What is Kahoot!? Kahoot! is a game based learning platform that works on any device, is free and doesn’ t require player accounts. There are three types of Kahoot! formats: quiz, discussion and survey. Once you create the Kahoot!, students login with a game code and play. They all will need individual devices to play the game in real time. The host screen displays the question and timer as well as a leader board. Students find the format fun, engaging and almost forget they are being assessed. You can attach videos, images and diagrams to your questions as well. Teachers not only receive scores, but individual student feedback. Results can be downloaded in. xls format or directly to Google drive. This is a
