In charitable proceeds
Charitable golf events hosted at golf facilities in Maine serve as important fundraisers for many state and local charitable organizations . A national study by NGF in 2022 showed the average amount raised at a charitable golf event was around $ 15,000 , and as high as $ 26,000 at premium golf facilities . Based on our survey of golf facilities in Maine ( 2023 ), the NGF estimated that ME golf facilities hosted 668 charitable golf events ( 91 % of facilities reported hosting events ), with an average of $ 5,183 raised for charity at each event .

What is Measured
Charitable giving captures both the in-kind contributions and the net proceeds resulting from charitable golf events that are hosted by Maine golf facilities and professional golf tournament events .
Using this survey data , NGF estimates that golf facilities in Maine raised as much as $ 4.9 million for charities in 2023 , hosting an estimated 3,300 charity golf participants .
The following , are just a few ME golf facilities that were extremely active in hosting charitable golf events in 2023 and the charties whom benefited from the golf fundraisers :
³ The Meadows Golf Club - hosted 15 charity events in 2023 raising over $ 180,000 for charities like Autism Society of Maine , Monmouth Fire House Museum , and Kora Shriners .
³ Spring Meadows Golf Club - estimated they hosted 20 golf events benefiting breast cancer , veterans , guide dogs , and various Scholarship funds .
³ Brunswick Golf Club - hosted 22 charity events in 2023 raising over $ 115,000 . A few events they hosted included the Maine Amputee Open , Big Brothers / Big Sisters annual fundraiser , and MTA Baseball Tourney .
³ York Golf and Tennis Club - Hosted a golf event that raised over $ 110,000 benefiting the Make A Wish Foundation .
³ J W Parks Golf Course -estimated they raised over $ 50,000 for various charities at golf fundraisers in 2023 . ( Northern Lights Hospital , local Masonic lodges , Pine Grove Program and MCI Reunion and others ).
IN ADDITION :
³ The Barbara Bush Children ’ s Hospital Open is one of Maine ’ s largest charitable golf tournaments , hosted simultaneously from three of Maine ’ s premier golf courses ( Boothbay Harbor CC , Prout ’ s Neck CC and Woodlands Club ).
³ Falmouth Country Club hosted The Drive Fore Kids Charity Golf Tournament9 which raised $ 100,000 in 2023 .
³ Other significant giving channeled through golf includes charitable foundations that raised an additional $ 450,000 in 2023 , including Maine Golf ’ s Scholarship Fund Committee providing $ 90,000 in college scholarships to 15 students plus two additional students who received a one-time grant of $ 5,000 from the Frank Langlois Scholarship Fund .

This survey provided detailed information on the number of golf facilities that hold charitable golf events , the average number of events held by each facility , and the net proceeds raised . The NGF survey of Maine golf facilities in 2023 shows that approximately 91 % of Maine golf facilities reported hosting a charitable golf event in 2022 , and the average number of charitable events held each year was 11 events . A national study by NGF in 2017 showed the average amount raised at a charitable golf event was around $ 10,000 in net proceeds per event for charitable and nonprofit organizations for private and premium public facilities , with Maine golf facilities reporting an average of $ 18,170 raised per event in the NGF 2023 survey .
