Breezing on Bromptons
Spring has arrived and pedal pushers are back in fashion, so what better excuse than to 'get on your bike'! Thanks to the new Brompton Docks rental service, several bike docking stations have been delivered throughout Kent and other regions meaning that there is no need to break-the-bank when looking for a last minute adventure! Now you may assume that these specifically engineered fold-up bikes are somewhat stable? Fear not, they are perfectly able with three gears, a night light and a bell!
After seemingly endless weeks of hard work whilst struggling on a mere 5-6 hours sleep it was certainly time for a break, one that will be energising and healthy for the soul, I thought promisingly…
After collecting our bikes and stacking them in the car boot at Maidstone East Station, we ventured twenty minutes down the road to the famously haunted village of Pluckley where we were to spend the weekend on a beautiful historic farm surrounded by picturesque acres of flowers and farmland.
The next morning, we began with a bright and early-ish start of 9:30am and after tucking into our hearty farmhouse breakfast, we quickly assembled our bikes and were off! We were whizzing away
down the pretty country lanes and suddenly it hit me, an
indescribable sense of freedom and sheer happiness! The sun was
shining, I was giggling and screaming “horse!” or “lamb!” every few
minutes and nothing was going to wipe that ridiculous smile from my
face!
Some hours later, it was time to make an all-important pub stop en
route back to the farm. We pulled up at The Black Horse, reputably
known for its excellent burgers and traditionally cosy atmosphere, where we enjoyed a well-deserved cold beverage in the gardens overlooking the village.
After retiring to our idyllic farm hotel, we showered and prepared for
dinner at the Rose and Crown gastro pub at the end of the lane, so close
that you could easily chance a cycle ride in a dress and sandals! The Rose
and Crown is a typical village pub, friendly owners and glorious food. One
huge meal and a couple of Proseccos later we jumped back on our bikes
and were back in our room in less than five minutes!
