Minnesota Starwatch
Make the stars your old friends as we watch the great celestial show in the skies over Mahtomedi. You’ll enjoy quality time outside under the night sky getting to know the constellations like The Big Bear, Orion the Hunter, Leo the Lion, and some of their great stories behind them. We’ll also use large telescopes, among the largest mobile telescopes in Minnesota and Wisconsin, for close up views of the moon, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies, and other wonders in the early spring skies. Weather permitting, we’ll also use an astronomical camera-telescope system for extraordinary views of our more distant universe.
You will receive a large handout package with user-friendly star maps and constellation charts, apps, websites, a telescope buying guide, and more.
Community Events
Presenter, Mike Lynch, is a retired meteorologist from WCCO Radio and has been hosting star watch parties and teaching astronomy for nearly 50 years. He also writes a weekly stargazing column for the St. Paul Pioneer Press and is the author of the book “Stars, a Month by Month Tour of the Constellations,” that will be available for purchase.
If it happens to be cloudy you will still learn a lot, while having a great time. You’re invited to bring lawn chairs to make yourself comfy.

Ice Fishing Clinic
on White Bear Lake
Ages 6 and up (children under 12 accompanied by an adult, no charge for the accompanied adult)
Have you ever wanted to try ice fishing, but you do not know where to even start? Come join Clam Outdoors Pro Staff Angler Pete Scholl for a morning of demonstration, tips and fun. Fishing equipment will be provided or you can bring your own. Pete will drill your ice hole, give a quick demonstration on how to set up and drop a line, and then together we will wait to see who catches the big one. Dress for the weather and bring something to sit on while fishing.
