MAGNETIC TAPE ZINE
INTRODUCTION
Issue No 5 of magnetic tape is the first of the year
and so it marks the beginning of a new look and a
more consistent format. There’ll be more interviews,
hopefully with more depth and more nice shit to go
with it.
This issue we look at a shit ton of stuff from the
Midlands; we have Papayér, whose January release,
‘Boo’, should be album of the year contender
come December. We also have fellow Midlanders
Wolf Town DIY, a record label behind a great set
of releases including Wade (interviewed in issue 4)
and Plaids, who we interview this issue about their
releases and experiences of the DIY music scene
over here in the UK. Completing the Midlands
collection are Human Hands, who released their
slow-burning and intense self-titled LP this month.
New Orleans-based Donovan Wolfington talk about
their upcoming EP and second album, both dropping
this year, and discuss the scene in their isolated
home-city.
Finally we have long Islanders Soda Bomb, who are
one of my favourite discoveries over the last year,
creating angsty-yet-fun punk. They blast through my
questions nearly as quickly as they do their songs.
