SPRING 2014 Page 16 When and how did Soda Bomb form? Taylor and Jon were in rival bands in the same high school, but everyone quit so they joined forces and made Soda Bomb in early 2012. Where did the name come from? Taylor was 16 and it sounded cool at the time. What’s the process when you write songs? Has this changed over time? Sugar, spice and everything nice. Also locking ourselves in an office not decorated since 1993. What would you cite as the biggest influences on you musically? It started as us wanting to be a garage version of Say Anything basically. Lyrically, your songs seem to deal with a general discomfort about living. Was it tough to write some of these things? No, we actually laugh at our own lyrics and write them right before recording because we're slackers and wanna jaaaaam. Latterman, Taking Back Sunday (they were good once, ha!) etc. all originate from Long Island. What’s the music scene like there right now? To be honest, it sucks ass. There's a lot of kids/ bands that try way too hard to have the coolest merch and having the heaviest Xibalba cover band. Also if you don't have tank tops with big words on them and lyric videos...you don't get shows. What’s been the best experience so far for Soda Bomb? On Taylor's birthday we opened for The Gay Blades at what we thought was one of Maxwell's (A cool ass venue in New Jersey) last shows. Taylor got on stage with The Gay Blades and did guest vocals. After the show, we all sat on this pier and watched the NYC skyline at 2 am. It was definitely a bonding moment for us. (We kissed) And what’s been the nadir?
