Town Banners and Artwork
The clause banners illustrated by Simon Clark for the Magna Carta exhibitions were also used to create a series of town banners. Surrey County Council sponsored banners were then hung in Egham High Street, at St. John’ s parish church, at St. Mary’ s in Thorpe, at Virginia Water Library and Englefield Green community centre, Guildford Cathedral and the Elmsleigh Shopping Centre in Staines. Excerpts from the graphic novel were also displayed in the windows of the Egham Waitrose supermarket. Additional banners were also displayed in two empty shop fronts in Egham thanks to sponsorship from Runnymede Borough Council. Finally, 18 banners flew at Runnymede on the 15th June, providing a rich backdrop to the Royal visit and featuring prominently in the television coverage on the BBC and Sky News.
