This time of year can be a great and a happy couple of months with many different things to celebrate: I'm a Celebrity is back, holiday is getting nearer (time to do some solid revision, of course) and welcoming in the new year is something many of us look forward to. However, in such a busy time, while we think about what we love and enjoy. Let us also think about many people that are not so fortunate. As a Sixth Form we do our best to help those in need, by participating in events such as the 'Spots Vs. Stripes' day and the food bank boxes that your PD group donated. We can make a difference to those people when it matters most. So from the Media Committee and on behalf of Team 6 we say, thank you for your support of our events and let us keep up the great work in the new year.

Winter is here!

As it does every year, winter has begun. The shorter days and colder nights aren't for everyone but there are a few positives from the long lasting time of cold. We spoke to some of our fellow Team 6 and committee members what they think about the time of year.

Karina - head of the Prom Committee - said 'I love listening to Christmas songs, decorating the tree and spending time with my family. But I think the best part is when you see all those presents under the Christmas tree and you cannot wait to see which one is yours.' A popular favourite part of Winter would be the food.

Katie - of the Media Committee - says her favourite thing is the Christmas dinner (stuffing in particular).

Letitia - 'Umm I think my fave thing about winter is wearing big coats and roasting chestnuts and then probs for Christmas it's just spending time with the fam which is obvs generic but hey ho!'

Sophie - 'My fave thing about winter/ Christmas is probably Christmas films & songs.'

Jamie - 'My favourite thing?... It's hard to say because there's so many good things that I can think of! But if I had to say one thing it'd definitely be a cliché "I love Christmas" because it's the prettiest time of year, with all the Christmas lights when you're strolling through the city, but more importantly, it's a time of giving- such as the food boxes we all generously put together, which gives you that warm and feeling inside.'

Abbie - 'My fave thing is the food!'

Ellie - 'ROAST DINNERS.'

Best Winter Advert?

Winter is here and so is the commercialisation that we have all come to expect. The time of year brings about the annual battle of the adverts but which one will come out on top? John Lewis, M&S, Sainsbury's - to name but a few - all vying for the recognition of having the 'best advert'. Here are the votes and opinions of some of the Sixth Form's students. Do you agree with them? Has your favourite been over looked? Be sure to email us what you think [email protected].

The first vote comes from Karina Ormenisan and goes to the Sainsbury's advert. The second vote goes to 'House Of Fraiser'. Letitia voted for the Sainsbury's advert as the best advert this year. Sophie Blythe's favourite is the M&S advert because 'it's really nice & heartwarming & it's quite original, like focusing on her rather than Santa.'

The newest adition to Team 6 (Jamie Day) kindly shared his view on this year's winter adverts. ' I think all of the Christmas adverts are great this year, but to place a 'winner's ribbon' on one, it would have to be Sainsbury's advert, not only because it's the best place to visit for a quality meal deal or pizza for lunch (so it holds a very special place in my heart). But because James Corden's voice shows that talent can come from the most unlikely of sources! And the idea of the advert is more legitimate~ dogs on trampolines? Really? (Sorry John Lewis).

Meanwhile Ellie and Abbie both chose the 'House of Fraiser' winter time advert.

After great discussion we at the Media Committee have decided that our favourite advert, that beat the poor performance of John Lewis' winter advert. Was the 'Waitrose' advert. Who doesn't love two robins falling in love over a mince pie? It's what winter is all about.
