The National University of Singapore Tamil Language Society (NUSTLS) has engaged
in commendable efforts over the years, since its inception in 1975, to uplift the Indian community
academically and culturally.
Sangae Muzhangu 2013 is its latest initiative, and a signature event that digs deep into the talents
of NUS students. It is a bold move to have it staged at the Esplanade Theatre, and I hope that the response
of the audience will inspire other budding theatre producers to aim high.
The production also serves as a platform to bring together a large number of Indian students in
NUS from different backgrounds for a common purpose, and to showcase their talents and calibre in the
course of staging a major theatre production.
The consistent focus of Sangae Muzhangu has been to promote the Tamil Language and to create
greater awareness of social issues concerning. It has also done good work through the highly-subsidised
Saadhana - ‘A’ Level Tuition Project which has been running for the past 29 years, and reflects its aim of
helping Indian students to develop good habits and maximise their potential.
My warmest congratulations to the NUS Tamil Language Society on its efforts to give vibrance to
youth and serve the Singapore community.
